finally got round to looking at that laptop you gave me, it is a Dell latitude 505 its pretty old with just 20GB on the hard drive, it is infected with spyware, malware, and trojans, you should not use this machine under any circumstances.
Having said that to fix it would cost quite a bit, firstly you would have to replace the operating system, then install a decent virus protection system (i suggest Nortons 360). and still only have a very limited machine you probably know that many good laptops today will have about 160Gb add a £100 pounds to the price to fix the Dell and you would have a serious machine depending on what you want to use it for, you could also consider a net book if all you are doing is surfing the web.
